Sexual Intelligence is an easy-to-read and informative book that explores how we think about sex. Dr. Marty Klein argues that sex is not just about physical pleasure and connection, but also about validation, reassurance, and psychological fulfilment. He urges readers to develop their own “sexual intelligence” to make sex more satisfying.
Divided into three parts, the book focuses on the components of sexual intelligence: telling the truth about sex, the qualities that define sexual intelligence, and its implications and applications. Case studies are used throughout as examples of how sexual intelligence can work for you.
The book challenges the assumptions, excuses, and fears we all have around sex and asks us to think about what it truly means to us personally. By perceiving sex as an experience that engages the heart, brain, and body, sex can be more fulfilling, and people can create a more satisfying sex life.
An important and relevant point that Dr Klein shares with us is that sex changes as we grow older. Rather than wishing for the body and sexual appetite of a teenager, we can adjust to sex that is right for us in the here and now, even if there are any medical, physical, or emotional problems present. Embracing a different model of sexuality as we age can re-invigorate a dwindling love life.
This book is a recommended read for anyone interested in expanding their understanding of sexual intelligence and improving their closest relationships.
