"Awaken is a gift to the spiritual awakening through direct and immediate contact with awakeners. A very special contribution to our conscious evolution."

- Barbara Marx Hubbard

"Awaken is a spiritual experience that ignites that place deep within that has been yearning to be touched."

-Patricia, CA

"An enlightened message (this is “The” message) delivered by “awake” beings, as if they are speaking directly and personally to you...with expansive visuals and glorious music that captures the sheer joy of being...we truly ARE all we seek."

-Barbara Morrow, Santa Fe, NM

"Awaken is a beautiful, heartfelt “wake-up call” for humanity. It provides sustaining words of hope amidst the current chaos and catastrophe. It illustrates in a very illuminating and powerful way that we can all let go of our walls and limitations NOW, and join a global family consisting of empathetic human consciousness. The film blends stunning imagery with poignant documentary-style discussion, for a result that is both meditative and life changing. The message of the film is that we have what we need, right now, where we are. We don’t need to spend time, money, or resources to arrive at a better place. We only need to wake up to this new era. I anticipate that Awaken will become much more than just a film, but also a movement towards a more loving and sustainable Earth."

-Jocelyn Godfrey, President, Spiritus Communications, Inc.

"The air in the room crackled with energy and intimacy during the movie. The passion of the teachers was felt when they consistently reached out by making direct eye contact. It was as if each one was speaking to me personally and I felt known by the end of the film."

Karyn, NY

"This was a visually stunning movie, inspirational and a call to "wake up" to our higher self. The Awaken film, takes the approaching year 2012 from the perspective of personal and human/spiritual transformation. Through the words of visionary speakers and the breathtaking views of earth's nature, themes or invitations to openness emerge. These recurrent themes were of connection (our bio-energetic connection to everything and everyone), creativity, compassion, love, oneness and responsibility. With the expected cosmic shift, we are invited to transform ourselves."

-Nancy Restrepo-Wilson, NJ

"While watching the film “Awaken”, I could feel a powerful, magical energy filling the room – It was obvious that I was not the only one feeling energized and electrified listening to the Awaken teachers. The film has given me the next steps to take on my spiritual journey. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is on a spiritual path looking for guidance or anyone looking for greater spiritual awareness."

-Jennifer Gilmore, NY

In The Reality of ESP: A Physicist’s Proof of Psychic Abilities, Russell Targ shares his comprehensive scientific research to provide convincing evidence that by quieting our minds we can access information in the field of potentiality where there is no distance in space and time.

-- Deepak Chopra, author, War of the Worldviews

This book, detailing its author's many successful investigations into the paranormal, should make those who deny the possible existence of such phenomena think again.

-- Brian Josephson, Nobel Laureate in Physics and Emeritus Professor, Physics, University of Cambridge

For decades, physicist Russell Targ has produced some of the most significant scientific research ever conducted on the nature of consciousness. He has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that the mind can function without limitation in space and time, and that this ability is widespread, teachable, and practical. The Reality of ESP is an inspiring description of who we really are, and why we should not settle for less.

--Larry Dossey, MD, author of Healing Words and The Power of Premonitions

Russell Targ is a cultural jewel of our time. He is a pioneer in the field of non-local perceptions with impeccable integrity. His book The Reality of ESP is essential reading for all of us who yearn to know the truth about the universe and get freed from the narrow, small- sighted vision of the world.

--Judith Orloff MD, author of Second Sight

Russell Targ is one of the most experienced and successful parapsychology researchers of the last fifty years. He writes from the perspective of an insider's insider. And, I regard all that he has to say to be of great importance to anyone trying to understand this very tricky field. I highly recommend all of the books by Russell Targ.

--Jeffrey Mishlove, author of The Roots of Consciousness

Russell Targ is one the foremost scientists in the world when it comes to parapsychology – and a good story teller too. If you want to know the latest and greatest about our increasing understanding of the psychic side of humanity, this is required reading.

--Charles T. Tart, Professor, Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto CA, Professor Emeritus, Psychology, University of California, Davis and author of The End of Materialism: How Evidence of the Paranormal is Bringing Science and Spirit Together

“There is a great urgency to this work . . . This book makes utter sense and Louv is gentle with his simple agenda: more green in schools, more access to nature in communities, the importance of giving people the tools and the health they need to create a better world.”
—Los Angeles Times

“The Nature Principle tackles the ambitious task of mapping our way to a more connected future . . . Page after page we learn that in working to heal the world through restoration, we end up healing ourselves.”
—Orion magazine

“The Nature Principle manages to both teach and delight. Think of it as a refreshing hike for the mind and soul.” —Oprah.com

“Louv’s vital, inclusive, and inspiriting call to better our lives by celebrating and protecting the living world marks the way to profound personal and cultural transformation.” —Booklist, starred review

“This book provides a way back to where we belong, a world full of reverence, joy, and discovery.”
—David Suzuki, author of The Sacred Balance

“Louv’s vision is not a rejection of technology or a back-to-the-land trend like the one that came out of the environmental movement 40 years ago. Instead, he wants to tap nature to boost our mental acuity, creativity and health. At its heart, the movement seeks to replace the apocalyptic vision that modern society has created….[ Louv] outlines this new nature movement, and its potential to improve the lives of all people no matter where they live, in his latest book, “The Nature Principle.’” — McClatchy Newspapers

"If you have observed the subtle, completing forces of nature steadily withdrawing from the land and our food in response to relentless waves of industrial synthetics and poisons, then this book will guide you in finding honest ways of bringing them back in their essential, nurturing goodness. Conscious Food is a banquet of agrarian insight."
-- Steven McFadden, author of The Call of the Land: An Agrarian Primer for the 21st Century, co-author of Farms of Tomorrow

"Conscious Food reminds us, eloquently and plainly, that even our daily bread is a sacrament. In its growing, in its cooking and in its eating, food deserves our honor and respect. Ewing thoroughly explores the reasons why our contemporary 'Industrial Food' system is broken, and then tells us how to mend our relationship with the earth and soil that nourish us - through careful growing practices, spiritual awakening, and mindfulness."
-- Robin Mather, senior editor, Mother Earth News, author of The Feast Nearby

In our current times more and more books about holistic living are being published. Too many of the authors have the theory of wholeness, yet disconnect the subject matter of their books. This is an error that Jim Pathfinder Ewing has avoided as he skilfully blends the ingredients of the land, the culture of the land, the growing of food and its consumption into one seamless whole. This is the way of a writer to whom a holistic way of life is a reality, rather than a theory. I thoroughly recommend this book and its valuable insights.
-- Michael J. Roads, Conscious Gardening

"Jim PathFinder is a competent guide through the realm of the miraculous, putting us deeply in touch with our selves." —Rowan Storm, musician and educator

"From his heart he shares what our ancestors have lived since the beginning of time: to be one with our Mother Earth and to heal each other." —Melynda Ruckels, faculty member, the Ritberger Institute

"[This] knowledgeable man manages to impart his wisdom in a manner that is beautifully clear and concise." —Sandi Sedgbeer, editor, PlanetLightworker magazine

"Jim is a voice for the Earth, giving us much needed inspiration and information about living in harmony. . . . A marvelous guide." —Brooke Medicine Eagle, author, Buffalo Woman Comes Singing

"Jim Ewing writes with deep compassion and love." —Sandra Ingerman, author, How to Heal Toxic Thoughts

“...possibly the most significant artist alive. Alex’s work, like all great transcendental art, is not merely symbolic or imaginary: it is a direct invitation to recognize and realize a deeper dimension of our very own being.”
(Ken Wilber, author of Integral Life Practice and Sex, Ecology, Spirituality and A Brief History of Everything )

“Inspired by Allyson Grey, every single image that flows into vivid being from Alex’s magical hand awakens, energizes, enlightens, and overjoys! The Net of Being is an ageless, yet now, glimpse of the ‘Jewel Net of Indra,’ the divine Buddhist image for the mutual interpenetration of all beings and things, from the subatomic to the trans-galactic. It takes your breath away, in the best way possible!”
(Robert Thurman, Jey Tsong Khapa Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies, Columbia University, Co-Founder, Tibet House US, author of Inner Revolution )

“Alex Grey’s artworks bring together the tangible outer worlds investigated by scientists—full of molecules, bodies and stars–and the intangible visionary inner worlds—full of light, shadow and spiritual beings—known mainly to mystics.”
(Albert Hofmann, inventor of LSD and author of LSD: My Problem Child )

"The Red Race, according to Edgar Cayce, were the descendants of Atlantis. According to Nancy Red Star, the Red Race had special agreements with the star people. Nancy and many native elders tell their astonishing stories in this book-stories of extraterrestrial contacts. This book is a wonderful page turner; it gently makes you question every level of reality."
(Michael Peter Langevin, Magical Blend )

"Star Ancestors is lavishly illustrated with mostly color photographs of the wisdomkeepers interviewed for the book, as well as with numerous examples of Native-American artwork in many different media. The art harmonizes beautifully with the undeniable authenticity of the stories told-stories that both entertain and enlighten even as they ominously point the way to a dangerous tomorrow that threatens people of all cultures everywhere."
(Fate, March 2001 )

". . . a book in which the very pages seem to emanate a truth that must be listened to, must be heard. The beauty and strength of these timekeepers' lives and stories stir us to wake up and respond actively to the brilliant wisdom now being revealed to us from sources beyond what we have seen, but which perhaps some of us have always known."
(Spirit of Change, January/February, Vol. 14, No. 65 )

“The knowledge imparted through these legends gives us instructions on how to take care of our precious planet in a time of increasing destruction of habitat, etc. Illustrated throughout with photos of those whose stories are finally being told, as well as the prophecies themselves, which were carved on rocks or in temples, or told through sacred dance or on beaded story belts. A truly Fascinating read.”
(Sue Stein, Fate Magazine, August 2012 )

"[A] memorable book, stunningly illustrated with both color photographs of the elders and painting and sculpture by Native American artists."
(Barbara Ardinger, Whole Life Times, February 2002 )

"Nancy Red Star is to be commended for compiling this highly visionary and timely text. Combined with the unique artwork, the interviews of contemporary American Indian spiritual leaders compellingly interweave poignant personal experience with prophecy and Star history to create a serious and deeply moving call for spiritual readiness in the face of the great Earth changes now upon us."

"Since its founding in 2006, Sal Khan's project-the Khan academy-has revolutionized our thinking on the potential and promise of unfettered, open-access online education. In his new book The One World Schoolhouse, Khan presents his vision and blueprint for how online technology can, and should, play an integral role in educating communities across the globe, closing the opportunity gap and providing high-quality education for all." (Al Gore )

"In this book, Salman Khan sheds light on how our current education system leaves a gap in every student's core knowledge. He found ways to fill this gap by encouraging differentness, fresh thinking and implementing creativity in the learning process. I strongly believe that all human beings have unlimited creative power. The role of education is to unleash that power. The way he relates the proper goal of education and the natural bent of the child is fascinating. He refers "natural bent" as the particular mix of talents and perspectives that makes each mind unique, and allows minds to be strikingly original. The way Khan portrays the concept of education and the mechanism of learning is revolutionary. This book is a must-read for those providing real education to our children in this new age of technology." (Muhammed Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank, and the 2006 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize )

"Sal Khan's passion and innovation is transforming learning for millions of students worldwide. The One World School is a must-read for all who are committed to improving education so students everywhere can gain the skills and knowledge to be successful in school, careers and life." (George Lucas, Filmmaker and Founder of The George Lucas Educational Foundation, publisher of Edutopia )

"I discovered Sal Khan and Khan Academy like most other people - by using these incredible tools with my own kids. Sal Khan's vision and energy for how technology could fundamentally transform education is contagious. He's a true pioneer in integrating technology and learning. I'm happy that, through this book, even more people will be introduced to this ground-breaking innovator." (Bill Gates, co-founder & Chairman, Microsoft )

"The world dreams of education reform, and Sal Khan is delivering. His pioneering video lessons have brought the thrill of learning to millions. In this compelling book, he tells the remarkable story of Khan Academy, and explains the potential in students learning at their own pace and achieving true subject mastery." (Chris Anderson, TED Curator )

"Sal Khan makes a powerful argument for fundamentally rethinking the way we teach and learn. THE ONE WORLD SCHOOLHOUSE illuminates the tremendous potential for online, universaleducation to enable any child, anywhere in the world, to succeed-not only in school, but in shaping our future." (Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google )

"Sal Khan is changing what we believe is possible in education. Through humor, charm, contagious enthusiasm and quiet brilliance, Sal Khan has made his lessons irresistible. Now, he brings those same gifts to explaining the revolutionary ideas behind Khan Academy. You'll adore this book because it's just like his lessons-approachable, good-hearted, smart, and ultimately profound. The story Sal tells is quite simply the story of what education will become... and indeed IS becoming, thanks to his example and to a generation of inspired teachers and intrepid education entrepreneurs." (Ted Mitchell, President and CEO, NewSchools Venture Fund )

"When you read this book, you will understand how the dignity of each student is addressed by education's visionary, Sal Khan." (Ann Doerr )

"Sal Khan has developed the best and most cost-efficient way to use technology to bring high quality education, creativity and innovation to all countries, including the poorest." (Carlos Slim Helu )

“This magnificent book is a kind of recipe for how civilization might cope with its too-big-to-fail problem. It’s a hardheaded, clear-eyed, and therefore completely moving account of what a different world might look like—what it already does look like in enough places that you will emerge from its pages inspired to get involved.”
—Bill McKibben, author of Deep Economy

“This book is not only brilliant but also tremendously important. It’s one of those rare books that opens our eyes to the fact that something we’ve taken for granted is actually intrinsically destructive and can be replaced by alternative, healthier forms of organization. I found it exhilarating.”
—Fritjof Capra, physicist and author of The Tao of Physics and The Hidden Connections

“As a serial entrepreneur who’s started three traditional shareholder-owned businesses, I know from experience what’s wrong with that model. The future belongs to the alternative forms of ownership Kelly writes about. This is a book the world desperately needs.”
—Jeffrey Hollender, cofounder and former CEO, Seventh Generation

“If you live the questions, life will move you into the answers. Mark Nepo offers you a map to explore the sacred in your own being.” (Deepak Chopra, author of Spiritual Solutions )

“Ninety percent of writing is listening. To receive the world and to receive ourselves. In this book Nepo has generously taught us how to listen. Do the reflective exercises he suggests to lead you deeply down the path.” (Natalie Goldberg, author of Old Friend From Far Away and Writing Down the Bones )

“Nepo has mastered a unique way of inviting the reader into a meditative state while reading his sublime wisdom about everyday life. I found his work a comfort—and that's a rare find these days.” (Caroline Myss, author of Entering the Castle and Defy Gravity )

“Mark Nepo is a master of listening deeply to life’s experiences where essential messages for the soul can be found. In Seven Thousand Ways to Listen he shares his wisdom with us. Mark gives us hope that we can live more vital lives through our own careful listening to our depths. Pain excavates those depths where life is trying to awaken our authentic self. Visiting the pain in our lives is made more meaningful when we can do so with a spiritual master like Mark Nepo. I find myself wanting to keep this book near me for frequent consultation and meditation.” (Rev. Ed Bacon, author, 8 Habits of Love; rector, All Saints Episcopal Church, Pasadena, CA )

““Listening is the doorway to everything that matters,” claims Mark Nepo. In a world where we try to make ourselves known by making noise, that's a revolutionary claim. Revolutionary but true. Read this beautiful book and learn to listen anew—to those closest to you, to strangers, to nature, to your own heart, and to the great silence. Everything that matters is found on the other side of the noise, and this book, written by a master listener, can help us find our way to it.” -- Parker J. Palmer, author of Healing the Heart of Democracy, Let Your Life Speak, and A Hidden Wholeness

“This profound and lyrical book teaches us the lost art of listening. And as we learn to listen, we open to the myriad voices of life and the silent mysteries of the soul and begin to sense the truth of being alive. Mark Nepo’s words are always like choice wine for the soul, to be sipped slowly, allowing their flavor into all the secret places of our being. Beneath and between his words we can hear this greatest wonder we call life. This is the real gift of this wonderful book.” —Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, Sufi teacher and author, Prayer of the Heart

"McIntosh is persuasive in his arguments that the scientific facts of evolution cannot stand alone . . . science shows that historical evolution, whatever its contingencies, is itself on a trajectory of values development. McIntosh has well-researched his sources and integrated them with seminal insight."--Holmes Rolston III, Ph.D., winner of the 2003 Templeton prize and author of Environmental Ethics

"It's so easy to feel overwhelmed by the dramatic turn of world events. Evolution's Purpose presents another view of the chaos . . . that humanity is evolving in an ultimately purposeful way, lending both meaning and illumination to our individual and collective struggles. Steve McIntosh's brilliant ideas are both stimulating and comforting, as he lays out a theory of our evolution that is both scientifically and spiritually profound."-- Marianne Williamson, author of A Return to Love

"A truly excellent, clear and convincing contribution to our understanding of where evolution is taking us, and in that context, what the deeper meaning may be of the Worldshift we are now facing. Should be read by everyone who is willing to wake up and take a responsible role in shaping our common destiny."-- Ervin Laszlo, Ph.D., Distinguished system scientist, President of the Club of Budapest and author of over 30 books on evolution

"Evolution's Purpose is a masterpiece! With both uninhibited passion and fierce intellect, philosopher Steve McIntosh deconstructs the materialist paradigm with the precision of an expert neurosurgeon. With gentle persistence and irrefutable logic, he reveals many of the false assumptions in scientific, cultural, and spiritual orientations about our presence in the universe that are less than integral. He takes us on a fascinating journey through the history and evolution of our own conscious and unconscious beliefs, finally delivering us with a truth that is impossible to deny or avoid: We are part of a process that has a direction and through awakening to this life-affirming truth, we discover a sense of purpose that changes everything."-- Andrew Cohen, author of Evolutionary Enlightenment and founder of EnlightenNext Magazine

"An imaginative introduction to a new dimension of the natural world." (Kirkus Reviews )

"Krause's musical expertise allows him to hear the orchestral layering of different species in each biophony, an insight that explains group vocalization as an evolutionary survival mechanism rather than a purposeful chorus of noise." (Publishers Weekly )

"The Great Animal Orchestra speaks to us of an ancient music to which so many of us are deaf. Bernie Krause is, above all, an artist. I have watched him recording the calls of chimpanzees, the singing of the insects and birds, and seen his deep love for the harmonies of nature. In this book he helps us to hear and appreciate the often hidden musicians in a new way. But he warns that these songs, an intrinsic part of the natural world and essential to human well being, are vanishing, one by one, snuffed out by human actions. Read The Great Animal Orchestra, tell your friends about it. And as Bernie urges, let us all do our part to preserve the age old sounds of nature." (Jane Goodall )

"Krause shows us the music of the natural world - long may his work continue!" (Pete Seeger )

"Bernie Krause and his niche theory are the real thing. His originality, research, and above all basic knowledge of the sound environments in nature are impressive." (E.O. Wilson )

"This fascinating book awakens our ancient ears to the source of all music. Read it, and you'll yearn to muffle our din-and hear anew." (author of The World Without Us Alan Weisman )
About the Author
Dr. Bernie Krause is both a musician and a naturalist. During the 1950s and '60s, he devoted himself to music and replaced Pete Seeger as the guitarist for the Weavers. For more than forty years, Krause has traveled the world, recording and archiving the sounds of creatures and environments large and small. He has recorded more than fifteen thousand species and four thousand hours of wild soundscapes, over half of which no longer exist in nature, due to encroaching noise and human activity. Krause and his wife, Katherine, live in Califo

This is one of the greatest books I’ve ever been given because it is the summary of my whole process, in English . . . accessible to most people.
~ Waldo Vieira, MD: Consciousness Researcher and Author, Projectiology: A Panorama of Experiences of The Consciousness Outside The Human Body; and Projections of the Consciousness

This is an important book for those who are curious about the possibility of the existence of other levels of consciousness besides that of the purely physical body. It is based on the research of Waldo Vieira which includes a very large number of personal experiences, particularly out of body experiences, collected throughout his life. Sandie Gustus is excellently placed to describe Vieira’s discoveries as she has been practicing and teaching his theories for many years and has considerable personal knowledge of a range of energetic and paranormal phenomena. The book provides practical methods for inducing out of body experiences and using them to increase our understanding of the nonphysical components of our conscious experience.
~ Dr. Peter Fenwick, BA, MB, BChir, DPM, FRCPsych: Consultant Neuropsychiatrist emeritus, Epilepsy Unit, Maudsley Hospital, London, UK; Senior Lecturer, Institute of Psychiatry, London, UK; Co-author (with Elizabeth Fenwick) of The Art of Dying

If, like me, you have not had a lucid out-of-body experience, I invite you to enjoy this compelling book that credibly argues the case for life beyond the physical body with an open mind.
~ Pim van Lommel, MD: Author, Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience

Sandie Gustus has written a provocative and eloquent book focused on those aspects of exceptional human experience that are often overlooked, and even derided and pathologized by mainstream science, medicine, and media. However, these accounts are ignored at society's risk because they can not help but enlarge and enrich the boundaries of the human condition.
~ Stanley Krippner, Ph.D.: Professor of Psychology, Saybrook University, San Francisco, CA, U.S.A.; Co-editor, Varieties of Anomalous Experience: Examining the Scientific Evidence

Any comprehensive understanding of consciousness requires incisive tools for studying the subjective aspects of human experience. The careful and systematic assessment of out-of-body experiences described in this book comprises a valuable scientific resource for approaching this complex and difficult challenge, as well as providing a potentially productive path for self-exploration and personal growth.
~ Brenda Dunne: Laboratory Manager, Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) laboratory; President, International Consciousness Research Laboratories (ICRL); and co-author (with Robert Jahn) of Margins of Reality: The Role of Consciousness in the Physical World and Consciousness and the Source of Reality: The PEAR Odyssey.

Jennifer's book provides a very necessary look at the alternatives to big bank lending. Full of examples and intriguing facts, Jennifer engages you with a fascinating tale of money and microcredit. Recommended. (Jeremy Renals, accountant, lecturer, and writer.)

This is a superb and timely book. Thoroughly researched, Jennifer Kavanagh enlivens the insights from data with real-world examples of persons who are bridging the current abyss between "money and relationship," to create new forms of personal and social wealth. In a period of lingering economic crisis, when many people in developed countries are slipping out of the middle class and into poverty, Kavanagh's book provides remedies that are practical, tested, and most of all, empowering. Money works as an asset, not an end: more than a mere exchange of value, money at its core represents the mutual commitment to values that is the basis for trust. By recovering the moral core of economics, Kavanagh has unleashed that most subversive of revolutions in which society achieves the very transformation it originally intended.(John Dalla Costa, Founding Director, Centre for Ethical Orientation Author of The Ethical Imperative: Why Moral Leadership is Good Business)

"This timely updated reissue of Anthony Giddens' ground breaking book reminds us that the problems he discusses have not gone away."
Diplomat

Acclaim for the first edition:

"One of those rare seminal works that will likely influence policy-makers over the next several generations."
Journal of World Energy Law and Business

"Giddens' is a simple message, argued with great clarity and power, that brings a new dimension to the debate."
Book of the week in the Times Higher Education

"A very useful introduction to the issues, and crucially shifts the focus away from targets and environmentalist frames towards the substance of economic and energy security interests, technology, state intervention and the limitations of the formal international climate negotiations."
Public Policy Research

"As well as providing a useful summary of a number of current debates in climate change policy - from the robustness of carbon markets and green taxes through to the role of government in fostering new technological solutions - Giddens makes a powerful contribution to the emerging debate."
Progress

"The Politics of Climate Change stands out in the crowded terrain of climate change publications by placing politics - rather than science or economics - at the center of the analysis ... there is much to recommend this book. It is up to date, with discussions of the recent global financial crisis and the change of leadership in the US. It takes a multilevel governance perspective on climate change governance and attempts to think about how the various components relate to one another. The book is accessible for the nonspecialist, making it appropriate for use in the classroom."
Environment and Planning C

"How do you create, maintain and renew majorities that encourage people, organisations and institutions to behave responsibly and well, especially when they have become accustomed to behaving irresponsibly and badly? This key question ... underlies everything in Anthony Giddens' important new book, The Politics of Climate Change. Giddens is clear that politicians make things worse by the tactic - much used by Brown in the economic field too - of simultaneously dramatising the threat and then pretending to have the unique measure of it, as the G20 may show."
Martin Kettle, The Guardian

"In challenging the standard criteria used by policy-makers to think about climate change, and by offering an alternative set, Giddens shows how a real national and European debate can finally occupy the political foreground."
Times of Malta

"The prospect of disruptive climate change should be high on the international agenda: it raises issues of politics, economics and equity that are even more complex than the science. This balanced and comprehensive assessment by a distinguished author should be widely read by politicians and policymakers."
Martin Rees, President of the Royal Society and Master of Trinity College, Cambridge

"An incisive and highly original contribution."
Ulrich Beck, University of Munich

“Dr. Pim van Lommel’s Consciousness Beyond Life is an exciting, informative, and thorough overview of near-death experiences. As one of the foremost experts in the field, his work moves us closer to rational comprehension of human kind’s deepest mystery— life after death.” (Raymond A. Moody MD,PhD, author of Life After Life )

“In Consciousness Beyond Life, cardiologist Pim van Lommel constructs a model of consciousness that courageously builds on all we know. The resulting view is… bright and hopeful… and has the redeeming feature of being consistent with scientific data, which in our era makes all the difference.” (Dr. Larry Dossey )

“Pim van Lommel shows that the symphony of human consciousness does continue… [even] at the portals of death. His evidence is robust, and can no longer be ignored either by the science community, or by society at large.” (Dr. Ervin Laszlo )

“Most books on NDEs only touch on some of the ideas that are presented, but the distinctive contribution of this book is that it presents and defends a complete theory of consciousness.... What a brilliant, erudite and magisterial book. A magnificent achievement, clearly a landmark book. ” (Dr. Kenneth Ring, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, University of Connecticut )

“Consciousness Beyond Life confronts the apparent enigma of clear thinking, accurate perception, and enhanced memory in people who are clinically dead. This rigorous and provocative book may change our ideas about the mind and how we practice medicine.” (Bruce Greyson, M.D., Carlson Professor of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine )

“I highly recommend Consciousness Beyond Life. Van Lommel is convinced that NDEs are real experiences, not just some sort of brain malfunction. He... has studied NDEs for more than 20 years and this is an authoritative look, with solid medical background. ” (Dr. Charles T. Tart, Ph.D. )

“There have been several books published which explore consciousness, the near-deathexperience, or the brain, but van Lommel’s book is the most comprehensive.... Human beings are something more than physical bodies. There is life after death. Read Consciousness Beyond Life and expand your mind with hope.” (Basil & Spice )

“The most significant contribution to the field to appear in many years, containing as it does [van Lommel’s] mature philosophical reflections on the implications of the findings of his study on near-death experiences in survivors of cardiac arrest.” (David Lorimer, editor of the Network Review )

"We are in the throes of an economic crisis, but crisis an opportunity are old companions, and, despite the havoc wrought by careless bankers, the recent financial meltdown presents us with an opportunity to reevaluate our relationship with money. What Comes After Money? is an anthology of 23 essays, all of which address our most basic beliefs about wealth. Of course, no simple solution to the problems of corporate greed, labor exploitation, and Wall Street arrogance exists, but Money proffers several strategies: local currencies, gift economies, an ecological model of financial distribution. Its propositions are often radical, but laudable in their scope and sincerity: the essays carry intellectual heft and a palpable earnestness. Not all of the writing is strong or well argued, but even when it isn't, the pervasive tone of righteous intent and revolutionary thinking is a welcome alternative to a broken financial system. In her essay, "Yoga and Money," Sharon Gannon asks, "What would it take to be wild, free, and independently wealthy?" Read What Comes After Money? The answer just may surprise you." Yoga International Magazine

"In their challenging and innovative essays, these economists, activists, scientists, artists, and philosophers reveal potential paths to a new economy that is biospherically balanced and equitably attuned." Gary Goldberg, "In The Spirit" Radio

"[What Comes After Money? is] an important collection of essays that point the way out of our economic morass, and into creative new relationships with money and with each other." New Consciousness Review

"In this collection, twenty-two contributors to Reality Sandwich concentrate on transforming currency and community as an evolutionary gesture of consciousness." Examiner.com

“Chris Carter is a one-man wrecking crew for the time-worn, tedious, petulant, and often flimsy complaints of the die-hard skeptics. A science of consciousness is doomed to be incomplete without taking Carter’s keen insights into account.”
(Larry Dossey, M.D., author of Healing Words and The Power of Premonitions )

“Carter confronts legitimate criticism with solid scientific evidence and deftly exposes the anti-science stand of the dogmatic skeptics. He makes a compelling case for taking the science of parapsychology seriously. . . . A must-read for anyone interested in the true state of this important debate.”
(Richard Broughton, Ph.D., author of Parapsychology: The Controversial Science and senior lecturer in psychology, The University of Northampton )

“The controversy surrounding psychic phenomena (psi) is both long and complicated. Chris Carter reviews the many elements of the controversy in great detail, but in a manner that is also readable and entertaining--a difficult feat. I found his explanation of quantum theories of psi, for example, exceptionally clear, and it resolved some confusion I had about these theories from reading other sources. Carter adheres strictly to valid scientific and philosophical principles in arguing for the reality of psi and the legitimacy of parapsychology as a science--no retreat into New Age metaphysical mumbo jumbo--and he doesn’t overstate his case. Any reader who can approach this controversial subject with an open mind will find Carter’s book immensely rewarding.”
(John Palmer, Ph.D., editor of Journal of Parapsychology and coauthor of Foundations of Parapsychology )

“I highly recommend this book to anyone who is truly open-minded about whether or not psychic abilities exist. Chris Carter takes the reader on an insightful journey that weaves together history, scientific data, modern physics, psychology, and philosophy of science. He convincingly shows that it’s now possible to replace belief-based opinion with solid science when discussing the possible reality of psychic phenomena.”
(Jessica Utts, Ph.D., professor of statistics, University of California, Davis, and author of An Assessment of the Evidence for Psychic Functioning )

“Chris Carter has put together quite a treatise. In thoroughly readable, engaging, and clear prose, he provides an erudite and comprehensive review of the skeptical and scientific studies of events that don’t fit present paradigms. Despite having researched the subject extensively myself, I found a deep well of new information. Carter’s book is both scholarly and entertaining.”
(Robert S. Bobrow, M.D., clinical associate professor of family medicine at Stony Brook University and author of The Witch in the Waiting Room )

“This book is a must have for any serious paranormal researcher and I would recommend it to anyone to open their eyes and learn about why the paranormal always seems to be getting such a bad wrap. It was an eye opener of education and wisdom and knowledge and I could easily read it again and again...”
(Examiner.com )

“Carter methodically and masterfully reveals that the skeptic’s position is increasingly untenable. . . . A refreshingly rational and well written investigation of the science of psi.”
(Dean Radin, Ph.D., senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences )

“A tour de force. . . Kahneman’s book is a must read for anyone interested in either human behavior or investing. He clearly shows that while we like to think of ourselves as rational in our decision making, the truth is we are subject to many biases. At least being aware of them will give you a better chance of avoiding them, or at least making fewer of them.”—Larry Swedroe, CBS News
“Daniel Kahneman demonstrates forcefully in his new book, Thinking, Fast and Slow, how easy it is for humans to swerve away from rationality.”—Christopher Shea, The Washington Post

“An outstanding book, distinguished by beauty and clarity of detail, precision of presentation and gentleness of manner. Its truths are open to all those whose System 2 is not completely defunct. I have hardly touched on its richness.”— Galen Strawson, The Guardian

“Brilliant . . . It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of Daniel Kahneman’s contribution to the understanding of the way we think and choose. He stands among the giants, a weaver of the threads of Charles Darwin, Adam Smith and Sigmund Freud. Arguably the most important psychologist in history, Kahneman has reshaped cognitive psychology, the analysis of rationality and reason, the understanding of risk and the study of happiness and well-being . . . A magisterial work, stunning in its ambition, infused with knowledge, laced with wisdom, informed by modesty and deeply humane. If you can read only one book this year, read this one.”— Janice Gross Stein, The Globe and Mail

“A sweeping, compelling tale of just how easily our brains are bamboozled, bringing in both his own research and that of numerous psychologists, economists, and other experts...Kahneman has a remarkable ability to take decades worth of research and distill from it what would be important and interesting for a lay audience...Thinking, Fast and Slow is an immensely important book. Many science books are uneven, with a useful or interesting chapter too often followed by a dull one. Not so here. With rare exceptions, the entire span of this weighty book is fascinating and applicable to day-to-day life. Everyone should read Thinking, Fast and Slow.” —Jesse Singal, Boston Globe

“We must be grateful to Kahneman for giving us in this book a joyful understanding of the practical side of our personalities.” —Freeman Dyson, The New York Review of Books
If you can read only one book this year, read this one.” — Janice Gross Stein, The Globe and Mail

“It is an astonishingly rich book: lucid, profound, full of intellectual surprises and self-help value. It is consistently entertaining and frequently touching, especially when Kahneman is recounting his collaboration with Tversky . . . So impressive is its vision of flawed human reason that the New York Times columnist David Brooks recently declared that Kahneman and Tversky’s work ‘will be remembered hundreds of years from now,’ and that it is ‘a crucial pivot point in the way we see ourselves.’ They are, Brooks said, ‘like the Lewis and Clark of the mind’ . . . By the time I got to the end of Thinking, Fast and Slow, my skeptical frown had long since given way to a grin of intellectual satisfaction. Appraising the book by the peak-end rule, I overconfidently urge everyone to buy and read it. But for those who are merely interested in Kahenman’s takeaway on the Malcolm Gladwell question it is this: If you've had 10,000 hours of training in a predictable, rapid-feedback environment—chess, firefighting, anesthesiology—then blink. In all other cases, think.”—The New York Times Book Review
“Ask around and you hear pretty much the same thing. 'Kahneman is the most influential psychologist since Sigmund Freud,' says Christopher Chabris, a professor of psychology at Union College, in New York. 'No one else has had such a broad impact on so many fields' . . . It now seems inevitable that Kahneman, who made his reputation by ignoring or defying conventional wisdom, is about to be anointed the intellectual guru of our economically irrational times.”— Evan R. Goldstein, The Chronicle of Higher Education

“There have been many good books on human rationality and irrationality, but only one masterpiece. That masterpiece is Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow . . . This is one of the greatest and most engaging collections of insights into the human mind I have read.”—William Easterly, Financial Times

“[Thinking, Fast and Slow] is wonderful, of course. To anyone with the slightest interest in the workings of his own mind, it is so rich and fascinating that any summary would seem absurd.”— Michael Lewis, Vanity Fair
“Absorbingly articulate and infinitely intelligent . . . What's most enjoyable and compelling about Thinking, Fast and Slow is that it's so utterly, refreshingly anti-Gladwellian. There is nothing pop about Kahneman's psychology, no formulaic story arc, no beating you over the head with an artificial, buzzword-encrusted Big Idea. It's just the wisdom that comes from five decades of honest, rigorous scientific work, delivered humbly yet brilliantly, in a way that will forever change the way you think about thinking.”—Maria Popova, The Atlantic

“I will never think about thinking quite the same. [Thinking, Fast and Slow] is a monumental achievement.”—Roger Lowenstein, Bloomberg/Businessweek
“Profound . . . As Copernicus removed the Earth from the centre of the universe and Darwin knocked humans off their biological perch, Mr. Kahneman has shown that we are not the paragons of reason we assume ourselves to be.” —The Economist

“[Kahneman’s] disarmingly simple experiments have profoundly changed the way that we think about thinking . . . We like to see ourselves as a Promethean species, uniquely endowed with the gift of reason. But Mr. Kahneman’s simple experiments reveal a very different mind, stuffed full of habits that, in most situations, lead us astray.” —Jonah Lehrer, The Wall Street Journal

“[A] tour de force of psychological insight, research explication and compelling narrative that brings together in one volume the high points of Mr. Kahneman's notable contributions, over five decades, to the study of human judgment, decision-making and choice . . . Thanks to the elegance and force of his ideas, and the robustness of the evidence he offers for them, he has helped us to a new understanding of our divided minds—and our whole selves.” —Christoper F. Chabris, The Wall Street Journal

“The ramifications of Kahenman’s work are wide, extending into education, business, marketing, politics . . . and even happiness research. Call his field “psychonomics,” the hidden reasoning behind our choices. Thinking, Fast and Slow is essential reading for anyone with a mind.” —Kyle Smith, The New York Post

“A major intellectual event . . . The work of Kahneman and Tversky was a crucial pivot point in the way we see ourselves.” —David Brooks, The New York Times

“Kahneman provides a detailed, yet accessible, description of the psychological mechanisms involved in making decisions.” —Jacek Debiec, Nature

“With Kahneman’s expert help, readers may understand this mix of psychology and economics better than most accountants, therapists, or elected representatives. VERDICT A stellar accomplishment, a book for everyone who likes to think and wants to do it better.” —Library Journal
