Kaya is largely “self-taught”: drawn to the study of dreams by his own experience. At the age of 26, in the middle of a successful music career, he was literally besieged by his dreams – having more than 50 every night. At first, he felt he was going insane, and it was so overwhelming he was compelled to quit the music business and give it his full attention. He isolated himself and dove into a careful study of his dreams, diligently writing them down and seeking to understand their symbolism. This process brought him to develop a meticulous and precise system of dream interpretation.
A large amount of Kaya’s study of dream interpretation had to do with a series of very personal and spiritual processes. One of the founding principles of Kaya's teaching, is autonomy. He believes we all have within ourselves all that we need to live to our full potential. His techniques are meant to equip each us with the tools and language to decode the symbolic messages of our dreams and our waking lives.
Kaya has drawn a lot of knowledge through his workshops, which he used as field research to verify his own conclusions and profound findings. Holding 11 workshops in various countries and sharing his analysis on dream interpretation, Kaya went on to discover and examine the stories of many different people. He documented each workshop, often cross referencing them, and seeing the never-ending similarities in each individual story. The exchanging and sharing of information through these seminars, where the people were as part of the process as Kaya himself, resulted in deep understanding that goes beyond Kaya's personal experience.
Lastly, Kaya is also an accomplished recording artist and musician. In Canada, Kaya was performing in front of 25,000 people at 9 years old. By the age of 10, he had a gold record, and at 18, he had two Quebec number-one singles, with four more songs hitting number 1 on the next album. By the time he was just 24, Kaya stunned everyone by walking away from a major deal with Sony in order to pursue a more spiritual path. Eventually Kaya returned to music in his own terms, following his dreams in a very literal way. What emerged was a unique album, Born Under The Star of Change, recorded with longtime friend and New York producer, Russ DeSalvo. In this album he’s able to musically express elements of his work as a dream interpreter, the positive message he carries for everyone, as well as the idea that are all capable of great change.
