I have, however, seen a DVD of the first show in a three-part series broadcast by OvationTV launched in May 2011 called “In Search of Food.” Hosted by chef and conservationist Barton Seaver, “In Search of Food” takes a look at “localvore:” people dedicated to eating and growing food grown and produced locally—or as it is also referred to, “farm to table” food. This first installment takes place in Minneapolis, where Barton visits local chefs and small-scale farmers of both animals and vegetables (and an old fashioned butter-making plant), who demonstrate the multi-layered benefits of eating and buying local, organic, and sustainably farmed products. The show’s format was predictable but still it was well done, interesting, and certainly inspired in me the desired effect of wanting to get to know and support my local farmers. Perhaps more to the point, the trend of localvorism (I just made that up) is not a throwback to the past, but a wave of the future that is taking root. If I had cable, I would certainly tune in to see the shows in New York and San Francisco.
